Who We Are

Susanne Bingham Deitzel serves as Chief Value Officer and Managing Partner for the Center for Intentional Leadership.

After two decades with the firm, she has shaped much of what it offers and how it works: its communication and platform, its offerings, its delivery model, and its operational capacity. That work continues. She operates in the seams, developing the firm's offerings and its team on one side and meeting the broader strategic needs of clients in business and society on the other, and she treats the two as one practice.

While many consultants experience pressure to quickly focus in on a solution, Susanne's discipline is to zoom out first, to first find the context that determines a solution that holds. Clients usually arrive with a leadership challenge to address, a business problem to solve, or an opportunity they hope to realize. What she brings to those conversations is an appreciation for the connective tissue between human capability, strategic thinking, and its effective implementation. She asserts that in an environment of expanding global, political, and economic complexity, rich contextual texture and intentionally designed communication are essential. This way of seeing tends to resonate with organizations that value both human ingenuity and emergingly sophisticated technologies, rather than choosing between them.

Her role, as she has created it, is to locate value in the intersections between people and possibility. More often than not she does that by meeting leaders with the same curiosity and equanimity she has found in the most capable of them. She takes a learning posture in most situations, which has proven helpful in a world that has been taught to have the answers.

Susanne has two adult children, Erin and Shannon, who have now embarked on their own journeys, and her greatest reward is seeing them express their talent, independence, virtues and hard work into fulfilling lives. Susanne is most often found on her front porch with book or pen in hand, in the Western North Carolina mountains with her Black Labrador, Gemini.
